anything but, nothing but, all but, none but

這些短語(yǔ)均由代詞加前置詞but(除開)構(gòu)成，但含義各不相同。

ng but ：(=not at all, by no means, never)表示“決不，根本不”。

例如：She is anything but a beauty.（她一點(diǎn)也不漂亮。）

g but ：(=only)表示“只不過，除了……以外什么也沒有”。

例如：They did nothing but complain.（他們只知道抱怨。）

but ：(=almost, nearly)表示“幾乎，差一點(diǎn)”。

例如：She all but fainted when she heard the news.（聽到那消息，她差點(diǎn)暈過去。）

but ：(=no one except)表示“只有；除……外誰也不”。

例如：None but my mother fully understands my condition.（最了解我的情況的人不是別人正是我的母親。）
