defend, protect, safeguard, guard, shield, shelter, harbour

這些動(dòng)詞均有“保護(hù)、保衛(wèi)”之意。

defend : 普通用詞，指用武力或其它措施使人或物不受損害，消除危險(xiǎn)。用作比喻時(shí)，指堅(jiān)持某種行動(dòng)、決定或意見(jiàn)。

They defended very well in the game.（在那場(chǎng)比賽中他們防守得很好。）

protect : 普通用詞，指用某種手段作為防御工具以防危險(xiǎn)或傷害。

The troops were there to protect the townspeople.（部隊(duì)駐扎在那里以保護(hù)市民。）

safeguard : 語(yǔ)氣強(qiáng)，指采取積極措施預(yù)防可能發(fā)生的一切攻擊或危險(xiǎn)。

Their political rights must be safeguarded.（他們的政治利益必須得到保證。）

guard : 普通用詞，指保持警惕以防可能的攻擊或傷害。

The soldiers guarded the prince whenever he left the palace.（每當(dāng)王子離開(kāi)皇宮, 士兵們都要保護(hù)他。）

shield : 語(yǔ)氣比protect強(qiáng)，但側(cè)重防止迫在眉睫的攻擊或傷害。

These trees will shield off arid winds and protect the fields.（這些樹(shù)能擋住旱風(fēng), 保護(hù)農(nóng)田。）

shelter : 通常指尋找安全地方躲避風(fēng)雨或使人免遭危害。

He sheltered himself behind a hedge.（他躲在樹(shù)籬后面。）

harbour : 貶義詞，指隱匿或非法保護(hù)、窩藏。

It's an offence to harbour the criminals.（窩藏罪犯是犯罪行為。）
