discard, scrap, shed

這些動詞都有“拋棄、丟棄”之意。

discard : 指把具體的東西拋掉不要，著重扔、丟的動作。

We should discard old beliefs.（我們應(yīng)該拋棄舊觀念。）

scrap : 指拋棄過時不再有用的東西。

In the end, the decision to scrap the project was unanimous.（最后，大家一致決定放棄這一項目。）

shed : 指毛發(fā)、皮膚、葉等經(jīng)過某種自然的過程而脫落。

Many trees shed their leaves in autumn.（許多樹在秋天落葉。）

discern, discriminate, distinguish

這些動詞均有“區(qū)別、辨別”之意。

discern : 語義較籠統(tǒng)，著重精深與準(zhǔn)確的觀察力，不一定有能分辨關(guān)系密切的各項事物的含義。

I soon discerned that the man was lying.（我很快便察覺出這個人是在撒謊。）

discriminate : 語氣強(qiáng)，指從十分相似的事物中辨出差異，尤其把好壞區(qū)分開來。

They can discriminate hundreds of colours.（他們能分辨上百種顏色。）

distinguish : 普通用詞，指辨別者的能力或?qū)嶋H觀察到的區(qū)別，強(qiáng)調(diào)辨別所需的技巧。

Can you distinguish the twins apart?(你能分辨這對雙胞胎嗎?)
