Life or death is destined and that riches and ranks depend on Heaven.

9、君子成人之美,不成人之惡。小人反是。

A gentleman helps others to be accomplished, not helping them to commit sin. A?flunky?does the opposite.

10、名不正則言不順,言不順則事不成。

If a name is not proper, you can’t use it all right; if you can’t use it all right, you can’t accomplish anything;

11、父母在,不遠(yuǎn)游,游必有方。

If your parents are living, don’t travel afar; if you do, you must tell them your whereabouts.

A worthy is not alone; he has company to keep.

12、言必信,行必果。

He means what he says; he succeeds in his deeds.

13、君子和而不同,小人同而不和。

Gentlemen have peace but disagree; flunkies agree but have no peace.

14、工欲善其事,必先利其器。

If a workman wants his job perfectly done, his tool he must first hone.

15、人無(wú)遠(yuǎn)慮,必有近憂。

If one has no cares for future, he must have worries for now.

16、道不同,不相為謀。

Each aiming other, they don’t plan together.

17、仕而優(yōu)則學(xué),學(xué)而優(yōu)則仕。

An official should be a learner, having done well; having done well, a learner should be an official.

18、知之者不如好之者,好之者不如樂(lè)之者。

Knowing it is not as good as loving it; loving it is not as good as enjoying it.

19、溫故而知新,可以為師矣。

If through review one knows more, he can be a teacher.

20、吾十有五而志于學(xué),三十而立,四十而不惑。

Such am I, determined to learn at fifteen, established at thirty, free from illusions at forty.

In a company of three, my teacher there must be. The worthy I choose and follow, and the unworthy I amend.

Man on earth, good at birth; the same nature varies on nurture.

25、人法地,地法天,天法道,道法自然。

Man is modeled on Earth, Earth on Heaven, Heaven on the Word, and the Word on Nature.

26、甘其食,美其服,安其居,樂(lè)其俗。

Let people go back to the days of being fed well, dressed well, settled well and happy with the way they are.

27、上善若水。水善利萬(wàn)物而不爭(zhēng)。

The top goodness is like water, benefiting all, and contending with none.

28、天網(wǎng)恢恢,疏而不失。

The net of Heaven is so wide; it lays nothing aside.

29、信言不美,美言不信;善者不辯,辯者不善。

Faithful words are not beautiful; beautiful words are not faithful. He who is good does not have a glib tongue; he who has a glib tongue is not good.

Mend your house against a rain; dig a well before you thirst.
