A 13-year-old American boy has become the youngest climber to reach the top of Mount Everest, surpassing the previous record set by a 16-year-old Nepalese climber.

一名13歲的美國男孩兒成了世界上攀上珠峰的年齡最小的登山者，也打破了此前一位尼泊爾登山者創(chuàng)下的16歲登頂珠峰的記錄。

Jordan Romero's mother, Leigh Anne Drake, said her son had called her by satellite phone from the summit of the world's highest mountain, 29-thousand and 35 feet (8,850 metres) above sea level.

這名男孩叫喬丹羅梅羅。他的母親安妮說，她的兒子曾站在世界最高峰（海拔8，850米）的頂峰，用衛(wèi)星電話與她通話。

He said, "I just want to do something big, and it was something I wanted to do for myself, and it was just all about the experience. I just happen to be 13."

羅梅羅說，“我只是想干點(diǎn)有名堂的事來,并且這（登珠峰）是我想靠自己的力量做的一件事情。享受過程是最重要的，只不過我恰巧是13歲而已。”

The teenager, from California, plans in the coming years to conquer the seven highest summits in each continent.

He climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa when he was nine years old, saying he was inspired by a painting in his school hallway of the seven continents' highest summits.

But Everest was the young mountaineer's first challenge above 26,240 feet (eight-thousand metres).
