Superman became an instant classic when he debuted in Action Comics on April 18, 1938. Artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger created Batman on May 1939. One year after his debut, Batman shared the spotlight with Superman on the cover of a 1940 New York World's Fair anthology comic.
