Iraq war thriller The Hurt Locker is the big winner at the Academy Awards, the film won the Best Picture Oscar and Kathryn Bigelow won for Best Director. Sandra Bullock won Best Actress for her role in the hit The Blind Side, Jeff Bridges won Best Actor for his role in Crazy Heart.

Today is the final day in office for Congressman Eric Massa, the New York Democrat is resigning amid an ethic probe. A House panel is reviewing a complaint against Massa made by a mail staffer who reportedly felt uncomfortable in the situation with Massa that has sexual overtones.

A strong earthquake has devastated several small villages in Eastern Turkey. Officials say dozens of people are dead, many more injured. The magnitude 6.0 quake struck early in the morning as many people slept. Officials say the village near the epicenter is totally flattened.

The head of Iraq’s election commission says results of the country's election will be announced in a few days, turnout figure should be known later today. The election which was held yesterday, will determine who will lead the country as U.S. troops start to head home.
