On July 4, 1776, the US declares Independence.

The American Revolution arose out of a series of conflicts between the 13 colonies and Great Britain. Some were social and religious, but most were economic, especially when it came to paying taxes. The Boston Tea Party made it clear that New Englanders did not want to pay the price demanded by George III. Other local uprisings such as those fought at Concord and Lexington reinforced the point. Horseman galloped down the Atlantic Coast all the way to Georgia to spread the news, igniting revolutionary fever everywhere. On July 4, 1776, war was officially declared through the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Seven years later, with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783, the United States became a free nation.
