This Day in History - Aug 27th Starring - Lord Mountbattene

Lord Mountbatten and Grandson Killed by I.R.A. Lord Louis Mountbatten, sailor, military man, and statesman was a man of many talents. Married to Edwina Ashley in 1922 he became a high Allied Commander in Asia in World War II, and received the Japanese surrender at Singapore in 1945. He was then asked, as last viceroy in India to help bring independence there and did so within five months. Seen here at the funeral of Gandhi, he won considerable affection from the people of India. In 1954, he became Britain's first Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff. On August 27, 1979, his family's fishing boat was exploded by an I.R.A. bomb, killing Mountbatten and his grandson.
