作為中國古代四大發(fā)明之一，印刷術(shù)被稱為“文明之母”。在寧夏活動周上，還有西夏文的活字印刷技術(shù)展示。說來“活字印刷”在英語中是怎么表述的呢？

Movable type is the system of printing and typography that uses movable components to reproduce the elements of a document. The world's first known movable-type system for printing was created in China around 1040 AD by Bi Sheng (990–1051) during the Song Dynasty.
“活字印刷”是一種用可以移動的文字模塊來進(jìn)行印刷的印刷術(shù)。世界上最早的活字印刷是由宋朝時的畢昇發(fā)明的。

這里的movable type system就是“活字印刷”，為什么用type這個詞呢？其實type在印刷術(shù)語中是指“鉛字、活字”，movable type，可以移動的鉛字，自然就是指活字印刷術(shù)中的活字啦。type還可以表示硬幣上的圖案，怎么樣，這么一個常見的詞，意思還是有很多的哦。

所以不難理解，為什么“打字機(jī)”叫做typewriter；type也可以作為動詞使用，表示“打字”：type a letter
