“閃電”麥昆出生時(shí)就是一部性能優(yōu)良的高級(jí)賽車，當(dāng)他毫無(wú)懸念地連續(xù)兩次在活賽杯大獎(jiǎng)賽中勝出、成為最年輕的冠軍跑車時(shí)，太過(guò)一帆風(fēng)順的生活卻讓他產(chǎn)生了無(wú)所適從的茫然感。一次偶然的迷路，讓麥昆離開了主賽道，來(lái)到一個(gè)位于“66號(hào)州際公路”邊上的小鎮(zhèn)。里面居住的幾乎全部是快被淘汰的舊款車，他們?cè)诜比A的現(xiàn)代社會(huì)中另辟蹊徑，建立了一個(gè)完全與世隔絕的原始世界。作為賽車場(chǎng)上的明日之星，麥昆本來(lái)不屑與這些上不了臺(tái)面的生銹鐵皮打交道，然而在被困在鎮(zhèn)上的幾日里，他卻漸漸被這些反傳統(tǒng)的汽車居民們所吸引，通過(guò)與他們從相識(shí)到相知，第一次認(rèn)識(shí)到這個(gè)世界上還有比獎(jiǎng)杯、名譽(yù)和贊助商更加重要的事情，生活就像旅程一樣，應(yīng)該注重的是其中的過(guò)程，而不是一個(gè)又一個(gè)的目的地。
