President Barack Obama and congressional republicans emerged from the White House meetings and they're hopeful they'll be able to work together on upcoming issues like the expiring Bush tax cuts. The president and lawmakers from both parties are looking to strike a deal before year's end on which tax cuts to keep and for how long.

A Pentagon study on gays in the millitary finds that overturning"don't ask, don't tell" would not create widespread or long-lasting problems. That outcome provides ammunition to Democrats but they still face an uphill battle to banish the law in this post-election session of Congress.

The Michigan father of three missing boys has been arrested and charged with kidnapping. John Skelton's sons were reported missing last Friday, the same day he tried to kill himself.

Travellers may not be impressed by a storm that's been sweeping across Europe but the animals at Vienna Zoo seemed to be enjoying every minute of it. They spent much of Tuesday frolicking in the snow.
