1. eat humble pie

▲克萊爾說菲爾賣不出去這輛舊車，結(jié)果有人打電話說對(duì)這車有興趣。

eat humble pie也可以說eat crow，意思是“認(rèn)錯(cuò)；道歉”。

After?boasting?that his?company?could?outperform?the industry's?best, he's been?forced?to eat?humble pie.
他吹噓他的公司可以壓倒業(yè)內(nèi)最好的企業(yè)，但之后，他就不得不承認(rèn)言過其實(shí)了。

2. pipe dream

▲克萊爾不想賣掉這輛車了，因?yàn)闈M滿都是和孩子們的回憶。菲爾問怎么可以讓克萊爾感覺好點(diǎn)，她說需要一個(gè)時(shí)間機(jī)器。

pipe dream就是白日夢，幻想，妄想；行不通的計(jì)劃。

Her?plans?are not?realistic?- they'll never be more than a?pipe?dream.
她的計(jì)劃不太現(xiàn)實(shí)，永遠(yuǎn)只能是個(gè)白日夢。

當(dāng)然，白日夢還可以說daydream，不過daydream更多表示“美夢，幻想，白日夢”。

3. intern?

intern是“實(shí)習(xí)人員，實(shí)習(xí)生”，I was an intern at……可以作為自我介紹的模版哦。

這個(gè)詞也有動(dòng)詞意思，表示（尤指戰(zhàn)時(shí)因政治或軍事原因）拘禁，扣押，關(guān)押。

Many?foreigners?were interned for the?duration?of the?war.
戰(zhàn)爭期間許多外國人被拘禁。

4. time marches on

march on是軍事用語，意思是行進(jìn)，前進(jìn)。

They march on the next town.
他們向下一個(gè)城鎮(zhèn)進(jìn)軍。

time marches on就表示時(shí)間過得很快，光陰似箭。

5. let go

It's gonna be tough to say goodbye.It always is.Nobody loves change.But, part of life is learning to let things go.

let go的主要意思有兩個(gè)：

①放開，松手

抓緊，別松手！

②放下（不再想過去的某事或因之而惱怒）

You need to let the past go and?forgive?those who have?hurt?you.
你需要放下過去，寬恕那些傷害過你的人。
