Beijing Daxing International Airport, located 46 kilometers south of T iananmen Square, began operations on September 30, 2019. The construction of the megastructure started in 2014 with more than 40,000 workers on the construction site in the peak time. Featuring a compact design, the terminal building allows the maximum number of aircrafts possible to park closest to its center, providing great convenience to passengers. There are a total of 82 boarding gates in the terminal, each of which can be accessed in less than 8 minutes once through the security check. Such design of the airport guarantees 300 takeoffs and landings per hour. The Airport’s annual passenger capacity is expected to reach 100 million in 2040, and thus making it the busiest airport in the world.
