The Oscars kicked off Sunday with a series of scenes from several of this year's best picture nominees that were altered to include show co-hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway.

The duo spoofed movies including Inception, The King's Speech, True Grit, The Fighter, Black Swan and The Social Network -- as well as the 1985 film Back to the Future.

The overall theme had a "dream" theme a la Inception -- addressing Franco and Hathaway’s “dream” hosting the Oscars -- including a scene on an airplane in which previous Oscar co-host Alec Baldwin pops up and an elevator ride featuring Morgan Freeman, who said: "Alec likes me to narrate his dreams. He says I have a soothing voice."

Toward the end of the opening, Franco and Hathaway bump into Baldwin again after exiting the elevator, who tells them: "If this were my dream, I'd be hosting the Oscars again. You just got incepted! I've already planted everything in your mind that it takes to host the Oscars."

The co-hosts then take off in a DeLorean time machine straight out of Back to the Future and head the Oscars after this exchange.
