The adaption of the classic book and play is directed by Eden Lake's James Watkins, while the script comes from Jane Goldman, the co-screenwriter of Kick Ass and X-Men: First Class.

The story follows a young lawyer Arthur Kipps, who travels to a remote house on an island somewhere in Britain to put the last affairs of a deceased client in order.?He is disturbed by the sight of a ghost at the client's funeral, whose children can see but refuse to speak of.
