But the world would feel lot more cramped if the Chinese government hadn't applied the family planning policy in 1976. The policy encouraged married couple in urban area to have one child. This policy has been questioned by some since the beginning. But without it, the world would have had to welcome the 7 billionth person five years ago. Also, Chinese people are thankful for the policy.
