As a beginner of the new cross-Strait tourism program, the first group of individual Mainland tourists left Beijing for Taipei early Tuesday morning. Around 60 tourists left Beijing airport after a brief ceremony was held by tourism officials. Altogether, 290 travelers from Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen will be starting their visits to Taiwan. For some, it's not their first trip to the island, but the freedom and convenience of traveling independently excites them. "I always feel I don't have enough time to go shopping when I travel with groups, and they don't take me to places I want to go, so I think independent traveling gives me more time to go to places and it's just more convenient."
