馬丁·路德·金（公元1929—1968年），美國黑人律師，著名黑人民權(quán)運動領(lǐng)袖。一生曾三次被捕，三次被行刺，1964年獲諾貝爾和平獎。1968年被種族主義分子槍殺。他被譽為近百年來八大最具有說服力的演說家之一。1963年他領(lǐng)導(dǎo)25萬人向華盛頓進(jìn)軍“大游行”，為黑人爭取自由平等和就業(yè)。馬丁·路德·金在游行集會上發(fā)表了這篇著名演說。

This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the South with. With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day. And this will be the day -- this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning: My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim's pride, From every mountainside, let freedom ring! And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.
