October 14, 1972 - this pilot breaks the sound barrier in the Bell X-1.
October 14th, 1947 - The Bell X-1 Rocket plane [-----1-----] Chuck Yeager, a former fighter pilot to break the sound barrier (mach 1). For years, many aviators believed that man was not meant to fly faster than the speed of sound. All that changed when Yeager was transported from California Army Base in a carrier containing, Glamorous Glennis, designed with a new kind of rocket engine and a fuselage [-----2-----] to reduce turbulence. Within minutes, Glamorous Glennis accelerated to more than 600 miles an hour and [-----3-----]. Yeager's [-----4-----] loomed larger in the following decades as astronauts prepared to fly rockets [-----5-----] the sound barrier.
