Brazil is preparing for the 2014 World Cup, and it's welcomed another of its many soccer heroes to the local organizing committee. Former Brazil striker Ronaldo will be on the front line of the preparation work amid mounting concerns over legal issues, delays and the building of infrastructure. The 35-year-old former World Cup winner and World Player of the Year was introduced to the L-O-C, and the head of the country's football confederation, Ricardo Teixeira confirmed his arrival. The soccer star was voted the world's best player three times and is the World Cup's all-time leading scorer. The Brazilian legend said he accepted the offer to deliver a good event for the Brazilian people. "This is not FIFA's World Cup, not the CBF's World Cup, not the committee's World Cup, not the government's World Cup, it belongs to the public and they have to be proud of this World Cup, they have to take part in this World Cup." Ronaldo has become a successful sports businessman since retiring from soccer in February. The arrival of a former player on the committee would repeat for Brazil what happened in France in 1998 and Germany in 2006, when ex-national team captains Michel Platini and Franz Beckenbauer ran their countries' World Cup tournaments.
