The premium cable channel Starz made a second-season commitment to creator Mitch Glazer’s ‘50s-set mob drama based at Miami’s Miramar Playa Hotel by ordering a 10-episode renewal before its April 6 premiere.

“Magic City is a beautifully written, superbly acted, and visually stunning series and we feel the quality of the work accomplished deserves a second season,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht told The Hollywood Reporter.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Danny Huston and Olga Kurylenko joined the ensemble cast based on the hotel where Glazer grew up as a kid.

Starz premiered Magic City at the Miami International Film Festival and scheduled a special preview of the period drama to air after the March 30 season finale of its hit show Spartacus: Vengeance.

Starz also recently made a pact with Electus and the Weinstein Co. on MARCO POLO, a period adventure set to debut in late 2013. John Fusco signed on to write the pilot about the famous Venetian explorer who traveled to Asia in the early 13th century and met Kublai Khan. Starz ordered a 10-episode debut season with production scheduled to take place in China.

Starz also bought a pilot from Ghost House partners Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, a live-action remake of a 2001 Japanese anime series about two female assassins working in the criminal underworld.
