With Lexie's (Chyler Leigh) death, Teddy's (Kim Raver) departure, and now the loss of Mark (Eric Dane), it seems like the other Grey's Anatomy docs should be out of the woods, which is especially notable for Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) lovers. After all, how many fan favorites can showrunner Shonda Rhimes cut at once?

However, before you sit back and relax, basking in the assurance that Arizona will live on, take a look at Shonda's recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.?In this interview, Shonda confirms that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Derek (Patrick Dempsey), and Cristina (Sandra Oh) all survive — and then notably refuses to weigh in on Arizona's fate, begging off with a "I don't know that I want to talk about Arizona."

But talk she does, in vague and frightening terms. When asked if Arizona might be leaving, she notes "we don't make decisions lightly and I certainly don't make these decisions lightly," adding, "I really try to stick to what's best for story and what's best for the show and it's really sometimes difficult to do that but it's also sometimes really gratifying."

She also notes that Arizona's story will "impact [Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez)] hugely. We're going to spend a lot of time with Callie this season, there's a lot of story to be told there." And, of course, she emphasizes that more deaths or departures are "possible."

Is it just us, or does her language sound very ominous? The way Shonda talks about not making decisions lightly and emphasizes difficult choices made for the sake of the story raises some major red flags — that's the same kind of language she used when discussing Lexie's death.?Of course, Shonda Rhimes is a tricky woman, so she might intentionally be playing up the possibility that Arizona could die so that fans are extra relieved when she survives.
