Deputy Chinese central bank governor, Yi Gang has held a lecture following the IMF-World Bank annual meeting. He summarised China’s current situation and emphasized that China’s central bank’s priority is controlling inflation.

Yi Gang, said, "Controlling inflation is our number one job. As a central banker, we have to control inflation including exchange rate policy and interests rate policy.

Central bank Governor Zhou Xiaochuan, had been scheduled to give the speech, but cancelled his Tokyo trip, with Yi Gang attending the IMF World Bank annual meetings in his place. During a seminar on strengthening the eurozone with ECB board member, Jorg Asmussen, Yi expressed China’s point of view on the European sovereign debt crisis and the Eurozone’s recovery plan. He said China maintains close cooperation with the European Financial Stability Facility and the European Stability Mechanism to support the Eurozone’s recovery.
