US President Barack Obama is being sworn in for his second term of office, in a private swearing-in ceremony in the Blue Room of the White House.

The US Chief Justice and a small group of family members are attending the event, including first lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha. A small group of reporters have also been allowed into the room. But the president will save his most expansive remarks for Monday, when he’ll deliver his second inaugural address to crowds gathered on the National Mall and millions more watching across the world.

The speech will set the stage for Obama’s policy objectives, including speeding up the economic recovery, passing comprehensive immigration and gun control measures, and ending the war in Afghanistan. The president launched a weekend of inaugural activities on Saturday by heading up a National Day of Service.

Obama added the service event to the inaugural schedule in 2009. He hopes it will remain a tradition for the inauguration of future presidents.
