Danny Boyle has confirmed that he will be directing a sequel to his modern classic Trainspotting.

And the 56-year-old has also declared that he would like to see the original cast - which included Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle and Ewen Bremner - reprise their roles in the sequel.

He told The Playlist: "This has been a long time coming. There's always been this long-term plan for Trainspotting 2, if John can produce a decent enough script, I don't think there will be any barriers to Ewan or any of the cast coming back.

The script is being handled by John Hodge, who wrote the screenplay for Trainspotting - along with those for Boyle's other movies Shallow Grave, A Life Less Ordinary and Trance.
