"Spartacus" bowed out and "Da Vinci's Demons" debuted on premium cable network Starz this weekend, and both shows drew solid numbers in the ratings.

"Spartacus: War of the Damned" ended its run with 1.43 million viewers for the 9 p.m. premiere and 2.7 million for all combined weekend airings. That's a hefty bump from the season premiere's viewership of 930,000 (first 9 p.m. airing) and 2.5 million (weekend total). "War of the Damned" had been averaging just around 1 million viewers in its 9 p.m. premiere airings for Starz.

Starz touted that combined viewership for "Spartacus" and "Da Vinci" totaled 4.8 million viewers for the weekend. That's a fairly meaningless figure but apparently a record for the network's original programming nonetheless.

The loss of "Spartacus" leaves Starz at a turning point, but if "Da Vinci" can maintain or build on those numbers over the remaining seven episodes of its first season, the network is likely to be pleased.
