The death toll of a building collapse in east China’s Jiangsu Province on Tuesday has risen to 11. A preliminary investigation indicates a gas leak caused the blast.

Ge Wei, Spokesperson, Suzhou Work Safety Supervision Bureau, said, "According to the initial investigation, the explosion happened after a gas leak on a pipeline on the first floor of the office building. The government will carry out further investigation into the incident."

Twenty people were buried after the three-storey office building collapsed in Suzhou City following an explosion of the staff canteen on the first floor. Eleven died in hospital. The remaining nine are still receiving treatment. The office building belongs to a liquefied gas sales branch of the Suzhou Gas Group.
