Yet another character will soon be joining "The Walking Dead." The AMC series has cast Josh McDermitt ("Retired at 35") in the role of Dr. Eugene Porter, a former high school science teacher who crosses paths with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the group, THR reports.

Still, he plays an important role in Rick's group as his background in science is valuable to have around. New showrunner Scott Gimple tells THR, "I love those characters from the book, they are very different flavors of comic book characters than we've seen on the show."

He also says the show will begin focusing on other locations, besides the prison. While the first two episodes are set there, things will broaden a bit starting with the third.
