However, just after the foundation of piling was completed, the owner of the neighboring building, Victor Sassoon, peremptorily interfered and opposed the building to exceed the height of pyramid spire of his building. Swanking as one of the highest tax payers in the International Concession, Sassoon compelled the authority not to issue the construction license for setting up a 34 storeys high building. Thus, the blueprint could not be fully realized and the bank building was forced to be 17 storeys high, which is 30 centimeters lower than Sassoon Building.
誰知剛完成地基部分，卻遭到隔壁沙遜大廈的主人維克多·沙遜蠻橫的干涉和反對，他無理要求中國銀行大廈不得超過沙遜大樓的金字塔尖頂。沙遜仗著自己是公租界當(dāng)局據(jù)發(fā)34層建筑執(zhí)照，無奈將樓層降至17層，比沙遜大樓低了0.3米。
