為了順利回家過年，南湖某高校的大學(xué)生推出了“山寨版春運(yùn)”，“包車”回家。而遠(yuǎn)在大洋彼岸的美國，幸運(yùn)地獲得了奧巴馬就職典禮“通行證”的人們也乘坐“包車”從各地趕往華盛頓。據(jù)稱此次參加典禮人數(shù)將創(chuàng)歷史新高。

在上面的報(bào)道中，chartered bus 就是指“包車”。charter 一般用作動(dòng)詞，表示“租、包租”的意思，比如：to charter a plane（包一架飛機(jī)），那么這架飛機(jī)就叫做 chartered plane（包機(jī)）。而 chartered train 則是指“專列”。包車有時(shí)會(huì)采用 charter rate by distance（計(jì)程包車計(jì)價(jià)）。

包車后，就不能再拉 odd customer（散客）了。Today the car is chartered, so I am not available for odd customers.（今天有人包車，所以我不能再拉散客了。），因?yàn)橐呀?jīng)接受了 charter fee（租金）。

此外，charter 還經(jīng)常用來表示“特許、特權(quán)、憲章”等意思。比如：The Charter of The United Nations（聯(lián)合國憲章）?！疤卦S設(shè)立”可以用 to grant a charter / to establish by charter 來表示。用在商業(yè)領(lǐng)域，它還可以用來表示“合同、執(zhí)照”的意思。比如：When was the charter granted?（什么時(shí)候發(fā)執(zhí)照？）既然得到了“特許”，那么當(dāng)然就很有“保證”了。A good education is a charter to success.（良好教育是取得成功的保證。）
