If nobody was outside, Doug could just walk out of the department unnoticed and make his quick escape out the building. Doug questioned himself once again as to whether he indeed heard the beep of the access panel or not. Then again, although there was no doubt that Doug was tired and stressed, as far as he knew, he performed well under stress, at least that was what he would like to think. Doug was pretty sure he did not hallucinate, and he did hear someone swiping an access card.
