Thai?wordsmith?Komol Panyasophonlert, 31, is one of the world's best?scrabble?players and ranked third in the world after?memorising?90 per cent of the entire language.
31歲的泰國(guó)語(yǔ)言大師Komol Panyasophonlert，是當(dāng)今世界上最好的拼字游戲玩家之一，他在記住90%的英文單詞后拼字游戲排名世界第三。

He learned how to play from a?tatty?handbook he found lying around at home when he was 14 and trains by reading the dictionary for six hours a day.
他14歲時(shí)在家中發(fā)現(xiàn)一本破舊的手冊(cè)，因此學(xué)會(huì)了怎么玩拼字游戲。他通過每天在家讀上六小時(shí)的字典練習(xí)。

But?remarkably, Komol can only utter a handful of words in broken English, can't string a sentence together and relies on Google Translate for written communication.
不過值得一提的是，Komol只會(huì)說一點(diǎn)不標(biāo)準(zhǔn)的英文單詞，連一個(gè)句子也串不起來，并且需要依靠谷歌翻譯來做筆頭溝通。

He said: 'Scrabble is more about logic, memory, maths and being able to outsmart your?opponent.
他表示：“拼字游戲更多的是考驗(yàn)邏輯、記憶、數(shù)學(xué)和比對(duì)手聰明的能力。”

'Plus, I train hard. Before competitions I spend all my free time reading the dictionary. In bed, in the bathroom, on the train - nearly every waking moment.'“
再者，我努力訓(xùn)練。每次比賽前我用所有的空閑時(shí)間讀字典。在床上、廁所里、火車上——幾乎所有走動(dòng)的時(shí)候我都會(huì)用來讀字典。

不過這篇《每日郵報(bào)》的報(bào)道，卻讓Komol本人不能認(rèn)同。原來Komol選擇筆頭交流是另有原因，并非一點(diǎn)英語(yǔ)都不能說……

“Ok. it's time to defend myself. These are what I answered the journalist that made him think I used Google translate [sic],” Komol wrote on Facebook.
Komol在臉書上聲明：“行，是時(shí)候?yàn)槲易约赫?。這是我當(dāng)時(shí)怎么回復(fù)那名記者的，也就是這回復(fù)讓他認(rèn)為我用了谷歌翻譯。呵呵?！?/div>

In their conversation, Komol only suggested that it would be easier to respond via Facebook messages to give detailed answers. It did not say his reason was because he couldn’t speak English. So basically, Komol was doing the guy a favor to ensure he got his story.
在對(duì)話中，Komol只是建議通過臉書消息來溝通能更容易給出詳細(xì)的答復(fù)。這并不能成為他不會(huì)說英語(yǔ)的理由。因而實(shí)際上，Komol當(dāng)時(shí)是確保讓那名記者能聽懂他的故事。

Thais use English as a foreign language, and common Thai schools focus on teaching the students written English and grammar, rather than speaking skills. Therefore, some Thais may not have too much experience with casual conversation or need time to think about how they should arrange a sentence when they speak English.
英文被泰國(guó)人當(dāng)做一門外語(yǔ)，而普通的泰國(guó)學(xué)校重視英文的筆頭和語(yǔ)法教學(xué)，口頭技巧卻少有重視。因而一些泰國(guó)人也許沒有很多日常對(duì)話的經(jīng)驗(yàn)?；蚴钦f，他們?cè)谡f英語(yǔ)時(shí)，會(huì)需要一些時(shí)間來組織語(yǔ)言。
