1. Barack Obama takes the top spot in the Maine caucuses. He defeated Hillary Clinton, grabbing 15 of that state's 24 delegates. The voting came a day after Obama picked up wins in Louisiana, Nebraska and Washington.

2. Roy Scheider, the actor best known for his role as police chief in the movie "Jaws" has died. The hospital did not release the cause of his death but he had been treated for bone marrow cancer in the past 2 years. He was 75.

3. East Timor's president is in stable condition after being shot in the stomach. Rebel leaders attacked his home and shot at a car carrying the newly-independent country's Prime Minister early Monday. The Prime Minister escaped unhurt.

4. Another step made towards ending the writers strike. Guild leaders have decided to recommend the tentative contract to union members. Meetings will be held in New York and Los Angeles tomorrow to make a decision on the proposal.
