The pixie crops of Emma Watson and Justin Bieber have been named the 'most influential' styles of the year.

According to search engine Google, more people carried out searches for pictures of the pair's haircuts than any other celebrity style. And consumer experts have gone one further, crediting Harry Potter star Emma Watson with bringing short hair back into fashion.

Creative director and salon manager Michael Lendon at the Aveda Institute London reports that the number of women requesting short crops has increased dramatically since Emma went for the chop.

'It gives them the OK to go ahead with it themselves.'But while women keen to emulate Emma Watson's neat crop have few qualms about taking a picture of the star into the salon, men are reluctant to cite Bieber as their style influence.

But although he says this is a style that suits almost anyone, Michael warns against going into the salon with too much haste.

'It's actually one of the most versatile styles around - there are so many variables. You can make it really unique for each individual.

'It's flattering on most people, and girls who have it done end up loving it. But if you're at all insecure about it and won't wear it with confidence, it's maybe not right for you.

For her part, 21-year-old Emma Watson, who in March this year signed a six-figure deal to promote cosmetics brand Lancome, says cutting off her long hair was incredibly liberating.
