center, middle, heart, core, midst

這些名詞均含有“中心”之意。

center : 指三維空間的中心點(diǎn)，也可比喻抽象事物的中心。

例如：At that time people believed the earth was the center of the universe. （當(dāng)時(shí)人們相信地球是宇宙的中心。）

middle : 一般指時(shí)間、空間或過程兩端間等距的部分。

例如：It's best to slice into a rich cake from the middle.（最好把甜美的蛋糕從中間切開。）

heart : 指事物最內(nèi)部或最重要的部分，表地理位置時(shí)可與center換用。

例如：They had reached the heart of the forest.（他們到了森林的中心地帶。）

core : 指某事物固定的中心部分或最重要的核心部分。比喻意義指某物的精華。

例如：The core of our appeal is freedom of speech.（我們呼吁的中心是要言論自由。）

midst : 書面語(yǔ)用詞，指在一個(gè)群體的深處或在某活動(dòng)的進(jìn)程中。

例如：There is a thief in our midst.（我們當(dāng)中有小偷。）
